Dripping
Dripping is the separation out of (discoloured oil) binding medium with or without pigment leading to long trails running down the support and sometimes leading to pools of paint collected above impasto or along the bottom edge of the painting.Related terms
Exuding MediumBleeding
COMMENT: COMMENT: The liquidization of paint (components) that separate from the main body of the paint and form long trails of paint down a support when enough exudate has accumulated at the surface of the body of the paint. It is often found in impasto paint. Drips may be intentional by the artist or formed at a later date due to the composition of the paint, and are therefore unintentional and potentially disturbing.
